Mirror

ROLE     USER RESEARCH · UX/UI · VISUAL DESIGN

Designing an e-commerce responsive website.

Mirror is a global chain of clothing stores that originated in 1994. They provide a variety of styles from casual to formal. Their main ideal is to make any type of clothing accessible to everyone. Mirror has been very successful offline, with over 400 stores around the world in 32 countries. However, they currently do not have an online business and would like to shift towards an online presence.

Goals

Design a responsive e-commerce website that is easy to use and that allows customers to seamlessly browse and filter through all products. Design the branding and logo for the company that is modern and neutral enough to attract all types of people and styles.

This is a speculative project for educational purposes. Mirror is a fictitious company.

Research

To begin my process, I conducted market research in order to understand the current trends within the e-commerce retail industry. I also conducted competitive analysis to familiarize myself with the competitor companies and identify best practices within the e-commerce industry.

User Research: 1 on 1 Interviews

I interviewed a total of 5 online shoppers in order to gain an understanding of their shopping experiences and to better understand how to improve the e-commerce experience.

Wireframe Sketches

I sketched different layouts for the homepage when thinking through the direction I wanted to take. I explored different ways to display the featured items, such as trending items and sales.

Design

I chose a beige color for the brand and a paler beige color for a base color to represent the neutral and clean brand. I chose a deep green/teal color as the highlight color to contrast against the beige colors. I wanted to create a clean and modern color palette that would appeal to a variety of different people.

Logo Design

I initially explored variations of “Mirror” with reflective elements in my hand drawn sketches. I then sketched different variations of the word “Mirror” and the letter “M” with a diamond shape. I wanted the diamond shape to represent an elegant diamond-shaped mirror. I wanted the finalized logo to be a clean, elegant, modern, and neutral design to represent the brand.

Usability Test

I then created a high-fidelity prototype in InVision in order to conduct usability testing. I conducted usability tests with 5 participants within the age range of 26 years old to 60 years old. I was particularly interested in observing how effective the filters were. Additionally, I wanted to see if users had any issues on the product page.
